I was fortunate enough to go see Morgan Spurlock who appeared tonight at E.J. Thomas hall. Morgan is a filmmaker who helped light the fire of controversy under McDonald's nutritional practices with his outstanding documentary film "Super Size Me". I highly recommend EVERYONE go see it, as it really changes your perceptions of the food industry in general and fast food in specific. For example did you know how many cows go into the average McDonald's burger, thanks to our high-tech industrial processes?
Wanna guess?
More than ten - more than a hundred - in fact OVER A THOUSAND COWS have contributed organic material to the Big Mac you might be eating. Let that sink in, because it ought to scare you - I know it scares ME. And don't get me started on the foodlike properties of french fries - because if you think they're natural happy potato strips you can forget it. Good grief, they add SUGAR and BEEF FLAVORING to them among other things!
Morgan is a great, funny speaker who really seems to care about his audience. I was lucky to meet him after the show and he's very down to earth and friendly. He's very excited about his next project, a film he's producing which should come out in November called 'What would Jesus Buy?', exploring the rampant commercialization on Christmas and the general creation of 'consumerism' as almost a religious force. As a former member of the retail management army for a decade or so I am excited see his findings, as I have some definite experiences that I hope will be reflected.

They may add sugar and beef flavor and all sorts of nasty stuff to fries, but they sure do kick butt.
Yeah, I keep thinking the secret ingredient has to be something addictive like nicotine or maybe high-grade heroin. Even Morgan admits that he craves them sometimes!
